What’s your name?

Nathan Aherne

Where are you from?

Brisbane, Queensland, Australia

What’s your background?

I was born in Adelaide, moved to Alice Springs when I was 3 and then to Ballina when I was 8 years old. Once I finished school I moved to Brisbane for University. I then lived in London for a little over a year after my degree.

I started working on Drones when I was in London and worked to make them something anyone could buy and use for approximately a decade.

After I got back from London I started building businesses with my friend Jason Rudolph, since then we have created approximately 18 companies together.

I have been lucky to have worked in many parts of the world contributing to the success of many projects.

Describe your life right now

Awesome. Several years ago, I decided that I wanted to reset life. I created a bucket list as a young adult and found myself having completed it. I should have felt elation but there was something missing that I couldn’t put my finger on.

I decided to take action and find out what that missing piece was, which I am happy to report, I have found.

What’s important to you and your life?

My general overview of wityayl is:

  1. My children
  2. My family
  3. Contributing to others
  4. Education

When I was first asked this question, I felt I was unable to answer it completely and that bugged me. After a while of thinking about it, I realised (at least for me) that it wasn’t a question I needed to answer in it’s entirety because what’s important to me and my life changes depending on what I would like to achieve from any particular moment of life. When I am playing with my children, I want to have fun with them and laugh till my cheeks hurt and that is different from what I want when I am having a business meeting.

If you are asking the question within the context of what I want people to say in my eulogy, then you could say I’ve answered the question but I am not sure I want to answer it in its entirety while I am alive.

I ask myself this question multiple times a day. I ask myself as soon as I get up, before I make a phone call, before a meeting, during a meeting, I ask myself before everything I do. I ask myself because I want to live every moment within the context of that question and I want to catch myself if I am not living my life within the contect of that question.

What specific experiences have shaped your view?

The events that shaped my view of life are:

  1. My family and life experiences growing up
  2. Having my awesome children
  3. Building companies
  4. The awesome people I have bought into my life through choice
